The Tea Leaf Reading

Brew a cup of loose-leaf tea without a strainer. Drink while concentrating on your question, leaving a small amount of liquid. Swirl three times, invert the cup, and read the patterns of leaves left behind.
Level Intermediate
Time 20-30 minutes
Moon Any (Full Moon preferred for clearest readings)
What You Will Need
Loose-leaf tea
Black tea works best for visible leaves. Avoid tea bags, which contain dust too fine for reading.
A plain white or light-colored teacup
A wide cup with a smooth interior so leaf patterns show clearly.
A saucer
To flip the cup onto after drinking.
Hot water
Freshly boiled and poured directly over the leaves.
A pen and paper
To sketch or note the shapes and symbols you see.
Moon Phase & Timing
Tea leaf reading is an intimate, personal form of divination that works at any time, though the moon can refine its clarity.
Full Moon: Patterns are easiest to interpret and intuition is sharpest.
Waxing Moon: Good for questions about new opportunities and future growth.
Waning Moon: Best for reading about endings, completions, or what is fading.
