The Iron Binding Ceremony
A formal binding using iron nails and spoken decree to permanently restrict a harmful person's influence.
What You Will Need
Three iron nails
The primary binding instruments. Iron nails from a hardware store or toolbox are perfect. Iron has been used for binding and protection across virtually every magical tradition in history.
Black cord or string, about 24 inches
Used to bind the nails together and to the target's name. Black yarn, twine, or even a black shoelace works.
Piece of paper and pen
For writing the name and description of the persistent threat you are binding. Any paper and writing instrument.
Black candle
Provides the solemn, absorptive atmosphere needed for binding work. A dark-colored candle substitutes if black is unavailable.
Salt
Creates the protective circle within which you perform the binding. Kitchen salt is perfectly effective.
Small cloth or pouch
For wrapping and storing the finished binding. A dark piece of fabric, small bag, or envelope will do.
Moon Phase & Timing
Iron binding ceremonies channel the weight and permanence of iron through focused lunar energy.
Full Moon: Perform the binding under the full moon for maximum force. The full moon gives the iron its greatest charge and the binding its most unyielding grip.
Waning Moon: Binding during the waning moon causes the bound threat to weaken progressively as the moonlight fades, compounding the restriction over time.
