What You Will Need
Black candles (four)
Placed at the four cardinal points to create a banishing perimeter that compresses and expels all unwanted energy
Salt
Forms the physical boundary of the ritual circle and seals every exit point after banishing
Vinegar
The sharpness of vinegar cuts through even the most stubborn negative attachments and entities
A bell or metal bowl and spoon
Produces commanding sound that asserts your authority over the space and drives out what does not belong
Dried sage
Produces thick, heavy smoke that floods the space and leaves no hiding place for negative energy
A fireproof bowl
Safely contains burning herbs and paper during the ritual
Paper and pen
To write a formal decree of banishment that is burned as the final act of the rite
A broom
The ritual broom sweeps the banished energy physically out of the space as the final physical act
A mirror (small hand mirror is fine)
Reflects negative energy back to its source and prevents reentry after banishing
Moon Phase & Timing
This is the most thorough banishing rite in the cleansing tradition. It is designed for situations where gentler methods have failed and the practitioner needs to assert absolute dominion over their space. The waning and new moon phases provide maximum support for expulsion and removal.
Waning Moon: Best for banishing known threats: a specific entity, a recurring negative presence, a curse, or a persistent pattern of bad luck that resists lighter cleansing
New Moon: Ideal for total banishing when the source is unknown, performing a complete exorcism of the space and everything within it that does not serve you
